Jury service
If you are called for jury service, you will continue to have full LGPS membership, but you must pay pension contributions based upon your normal pay.
Reserve forces special leave
LGPS membership continues in full throughout, and you will continue to pay pension contributions on your forces pay if it equals or exceeds your normal pay.
If your forces pay is less than your normal pay, you will not have to make contributions and your benefits will not be affected.
Strike
Absence from work as a result of strike does not count as membership of the LGPS.
You have the option to buy back the lost membership via additional pension contributions APCs.
Unpaid leave of absence
If you are granted unpaid leave of absence, including jury service and parental leave, the period will not count for pension purposes unless you return to work and elect to pay APCs to purchase the membership 'lost' during that period of absence.
The pension lost is calculated as the appropriate fraction of your assumed pensionable pay for that period of absence i.e. 1/49th of your assumed pensionable pay if you were in the main section of the LGPS or 1/98th if you were in the 50/50 section.
If you make the election within 30 days of returning to work, the cost of the APC is split between you and your employer.
The maximum period of absence your employer has to pay a share of the cost of is 3 years.
